Partners in Education
Hixson is a longtime partner of St. Francis de Sales School, a 100% tuition-assisted inner-city school in Cincinnati’s historic East Walnut Hills neighborhood. Associates volunteer for a variety of programs throughout the school year. These include Traveling Bears, which provides each first-grade student with a special bear that “sends” postcards from its journeys throughout the year; a pen pal program with second grade students to further develop their writing skills, and Junior Achievement programs for grades 3-8.
Canstruction
Hixson associates apply their creativity to Cincinnati Canstruction, an annual event where competing teams from the architecture, engineering and construction community build larger-than-life themed structures from canned goods to support Cincinnati’s Freestore Foodbank.
People Working Cooperatively
Hixson associates have volunteered with People Working Cooperatively, a non-profit organization serving low-income elderly and disabled homeowners in the Greater Cincinnati region, for many years. Our teams provide home repair and clean-up assistance through two primary events hosted by PWC, Prepare Affair and Repair Affair.
Special Olympics
One of Hixson’s newest partnerships is with Special Olympics of Ohio and Kentucky. Our firm serves as a corporate sponsor and provides volunteers for events such as the Greater Cincinnati Polar Plunge and the Southwest Ohio Regional Spring Track & Field Games.
Hixson Arts Fund
The Hixson Arts Fund was created in 2011 to provide associate donations and a Hixson corporate donation directly to nine key arts programs serving the Greater Cincinnati region: The Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cincinnati Opera, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the May Festival, Playhouse in the Park, the Cincinnati Ballet, Taft Museum of Art, the Contemporary Arts Center and the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati.
Design LAB: Learn & Build
Hixson is a supporter of Design LAB: Learn & Build, a free educational program that helps expand the knowledge of the built environment for students in grades K-8 within the Cincinnati region. The annual program features Hixson associates working with elementary school students across multiple grade levels. The students are challenged to create an imaginary client, and then design a solution addressing a problem within the boundaries of the program’s theme.
Easterseals Redwood
Each year, Hixson serves as a sponsor for multiple initiatives for Easterseals Redwood. These initiatives include the annual Honor Ride, a bike ride which raises money to support local veterans and their families, and ReUse-apolooza, a unique art auction which features items made by local artisans from materials salvaged by Easterseals Redwood’s Building Value division. In addition, Hixson also served as the pro bono architecture and engineering firm for their campus facilities.
Teacher of the Year
Since 1991, Hixson has sponsored the Teacher of the Year Award, which is presented annually to a current teacher of a Hixson associate’s child or grandchild. More than $155,000 has been awarded to date.
