Meeting EPA’s GWP Limits in Industrial Refrigeration

The American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, passed in 2020, mandates an 85% reduction in the production and consumption of high-Global Warming Potential (GWP) hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by 2036, supporting the global climate goals of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. In support of the AIM Act’s objectives, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Technology Transitions Program is enforcing stricter GWP limits on refrigerants used in new industrial refrigeration systems.

Although the new GWP limits do not restrict the continued use of refrigerants in existing systems, they will have impacts when designing and installing new industrial refrigeration equipment and systems. The latest issue of Hixson’s From Experience newsletter looks at these restrictions in more detail. Read it today!
