St. Jude Children’s Center

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital selected Hixson to re-imagine a brownfield building into a high-quality early education center for the children of its employees. Originally created in the first half of the 20th century, the 26,500 SF facility is conveniently located just five minutes from St. Jude’s main campus in Memphis, Tennessee. Working with international childcare provider Bright Horizons, the Hixson-designed space includes rooms customized for infants through school-age children. Three additional areas are provided specifically for physical development activities, as well as a STEAM Lab for exploration and activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Operational support areas provided include a conference and break rooms, work prep area for teachers, a laundry center, wellness rooms, and a full kitchen. Outside, an engaging playground area with climbing structures, outdoor instruments, slides, and garden beds invites children to explore their world and play.
